Meet Anthea

Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, from a young age I grew up reading any book I could lay my hands on. Being totally in love with horses, I think I read and reread every book in the library which involved horse stories until my mother actually banned me from reading them! Needless to say, I became adept at smuggling them home among my homework notes.
My great dream was to be a doctor, but after that went awry, I moved straight to university from high school to complete a Computing Science degree as it was known then. Quite at odds with the creative side of my brain. After many years in the corporate IT world, I worked up the courage to leave and focus on writing.
During my working years I kept sane by horse-riding, achieving a long-held dream—inspired by Elyne Mitchell’s Silver Brumby series—to ride in the Snowy Mountains. Resistance training at the gym was another favourite way to release stress. Now, I power-walk, practice yoga, use a rebounder and do HIIT routines at home.
Many other interests distracted me over the years. Bushwalking, the beach (still), travelling (around Australia and overseas), photography, public speaking through Toastmasters and there’s probably some forgotten ones, too. I adore German Shepherd dogs and have raised three that have given me joy, loyalty, laughter, and heartache. It’s never easy saying goodbye.
But always in the background was the reading. At the age of sixteen I read my first Mills and Boon novel and was hooked on the happy-ever-afters. I read across a mix of genres and confess to being a Harry Potter, Jane Austen, C.S. Lewis, and Star Wars tragic.
A history buff, from the very first lesson on Ancient Greece, I didn’t care about Socrates or Archimedes! It was the gods and goddesses that enthralled me. I learned everything I could about the history, myths, and legends of Ancient Greece, developing a special affinity for the Spartans. It was inevitable they would find their way into my stories.
